De Rosa Road Bikes
The symbol of DeRosa is a heart and it's an appropriate one; for the love and passion that the artisan bicycle builder Ugo DeRosa from Milan devotes to the DeRosa bicycles. DeRosa's real company name is DeRosa Ugo & Figli - Ugo DeRosa and Sons - and like many small Italian firms that make unique, often world-famous artisan products, DeRosa is a family affair.
Ugo DeRosa began building bicycle frames in 1952 and was commissioned by legends Eddie Merckx, Gianni Motta and Soler and Suarez of Spain. Today, Ugo’s three sons: Danilo, Doriano and Cristiano are involved in the business and Italian pro racing team LPR and USA team Rock Racing ride DeRosa bikes.
We currently have the King 3 and Idol model DeRosa’s instore.

This is what DeRosa has to say about their King 3 Carbon frame:
“The innovative KING TRE frame is built with single body technology in as many as 10 sizes. And that's not all: its monolithic structure entirely in T-700SC carbon fibre - the most resistant of all - enables it to reach the much sought after "target weight" of 950 milligrams of lightness. However all this is allied to complete safety because the composite material we use boasts the highest standards of torsional rigidity, density and mechanical resistance. The geometries are new too, with saddle tube inclination designed to optimise pedalling with the current compact seals. With its technological soul, KING TRE combines an avante guard design, characterised by the "integral" seat pillar and the "muscular" sections of its segments, which house the cables inside. It takes on the role of absolute on-road protagonist, balancing shape and substance to produce the best blend of lightness, safety, pure lines and reliable travel.”

Cycling Tips- Criterium Racing
- Criteriums are fast and hard so measure the effort you are putting in and keep your cadence high, accelerations happen very quickly and the idea is to be in the break that gets away.
- If your in the break, pull turns as hard as everyone else, it is the smartest that wins, not the strongest.
- Are you a sprinter or a TT rider? If you can sprint, go to the finish as a group. If you can TT, wack them with 3 laps to go and solo to victory.
- Sip your bottle every third time you roll through for turns. This means after you have come to the front and peeled off, take a sip of your bottle, keep yourself “wet” and do this every 3 turns
- If it hurts, awesome- you’re in a good crit but keep in mind if it hurts you, you can only imagine how much your competitors are suffering!!!!

Nutrition Tips –
New Years Resolutions: slimmer, fitter, healthier
As the new year rolls over it is that time of year that people start making new years resolutions. "This year I will lose weight, this year I will get fitter, this year I will eat healthier." So this months post will hopefully help you achieve all these goals.
I will lose weight.
The most important thing in weight loss is energy balance. Energy in needs to be less than energy out. The problem is most people try to achieve this by cutting out foods at the wrong times and starve themselves while increasing their exercise time and intensity. This leads to rapid weight loss in the short term, but major performance losses in the long term. This comes down to two factors 1) unnecessary muscle tissue loss, and 2) the inability to train at suitable intensities during training. When you drastically reduce calories around training in an effort to lose weight, inevitably muscle tissue breaks down, affecting performance. You will also lose metabolically active tissue and effectively slow your metabolism making further weight loss more difficult. As calories are reduced so too are nutrients important for training performance which leads to reductions in training performance and hence reduces fitness improvements.
I will get fitter.
To get fitter a person needs to train harder. This can be done by ensuring that you are well fuelled and able to recover between sessions. This is a topic previous posts have covered in depth, but a recap. If you are doing high intensity sessions ensure carbohydrate is consumed either before or during the session. This will ensure greater work is able to be achieved during training. By consuming carbohydrate and protein after sessions in your post training recovery snack/meal you will be able to recover between sessions better and back up hard sessions more often. The volume of carbohydrate and protein are not as great as most consume and small amounts as little as 20g of protein are all that is required to help maximise muscle tissue growth and repair. Check out the Fusion website for past posts on the subject.
I will eat healthier.
This is probably the hardest of all new year’s resolutions. Eating healthy is not hard and does not take years of study to understand. It takes organisation and this is something not everyone is good at. Plan the week out. Have a white board or black board that you put on your fridge you use to plan out your weekly meals. Choose one day a week as a planning and shopping day. Choose the days you have more time to cook and those days where meals need to be quick and easy. Once you have identified types of meals assign exact meals to each night. There are now excellent websites that provide you with recipes and weekly meal planners, give you nutritional breakdowns and print out a shopping list for you. These can be a great help when planning out a week. I will post on some of these websites next month.
So no matter what your new year’s resolution is, follow a few simple rules and you will ensure that these resolutions do not become distant memories.
