Bike Review

Cervelo RS

Cervelo RS Road Bike
Race performance is guaranteed, as the RS is based on the same platform as the R3, two-time winner of Paris-Roubaix. But its geometry allows for a higher handlebar position, which makes it a better fit for a lot of riders, even some of the pros.

Features:
Squoval downtube & chainstays - Optimized for the highest possible stiffness-to-weight ratio.

Multi-shape toptube - Squoval at both ends and oval in the middle to counter the complex loads.

Oversized bottom bracket area – Large diameter and smooth, optimized shapes increase bottom bracket stiffness for excellent power transfer from pedal to rear wheel.

Lay-up optimization – Approximately 300 pieces of carbon, each optimized in shape, fibre type and fibre direction.

Specs:Available in Sram Red or Shimano Ultegra, Easton Circuit wheels, 3T Funda Pro fork.

RRP: $6299 Ultegra SL
RRP: $7849 Sram Red

Nutrition Tips - Back to Basics

Most cyclists have no idea what their exact nutrition requirements are and if you don't know you may be missing out during crucial high intensity sessions or potentially consuming too much during easy sessions.  This can lead to body composition issues like excess body fat and a low power to weight ratio.   In a sport where cyclists try to reduce the weight of their bikes by grams it amazes me that many cyclists often carry excess body fat and body weight that isn't effective and is unnecessary.

Nutrition tips to focus on during high intensity training.

  1. Meet individual Carbohydrate requirements

This does not mean eat MORE CARBOHYDRATES.  This means match your carbohydrate intake to your intensity of training.  If you are doing long hard Km's eat more Carbohydrates, If you are not doing the Km's or intensity eat less carbohydrate's.  It is that simple.

  1. Fuel up while training

If you are asking your body to perform you need to give it fuel.  Taking fuel sources out on the bike like sports drinks, gels, bars, fruit, sandwiches is essential especially when doing effort sessions.

  1.  Beat the Drought

Hydration is critical. Ensuring you drink sufficient fluid while on the bike is essential especially during the hot months.  This doesn't just mean water.  It includes sports drinks, electrolyte replacements, and other beverages like Cola beverages. (We will cover this in a later edition.)

Know your individual requirements and tailor your nutrition intake to meet your requirements.  Just as you would consult a professional like a physiotherapist when you have a muscle strain, consult a sports dietitian for specific nutrition for your training.  Check out the AIS website: for detailed information on nutrition for road, track and MTB cyclists.
